Travis Scott can now check off another item on his bucket list!
Just one month after Days Before Rodeo dropped on Aug. 18, the rapper, 33, officially has the highest-selling mixtape in history. Prior to its release, Scott had announced that Days Before Rodeo would be available on streaming in its entirety for its 10th anniversary.
Also accompanying Days Before Rodeo when it dropped was an exclusive digital deluxe version with new tracks, the record on vinyl and a one-night-only sold-out show in Atlanta where he played most of the mixtape.
The hype surrounding the project was sufficient enough for Scott to knock out a couple of new records, namely having the highest-selling mixtape in history. He also earned his fourth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard charts alongside 2023’s Utopia, 2018’s Astroworld, and 2016’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
Days Before Rodeo also became the highest-selling rap album of 2024, inching out Eminem‘s concept album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). However, it didn’t top the charts instantaneously though, for the power of Sabrina Carpenter prevailed.
According to Billboard, Scott also now reigns supreme as having the highest-selling vinyl sales week for a rap album and the sixth-best week across all genres for vinyl since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991. The “SICKO MODE” musician sold an equivalent of 156,000 album units in the past week ending Thursday, Sept. 19. Out of that figure, 149,000 are thanks to the exclusive vinyl sold through his webstore.
At the tail-end of the Blog Era, Scott catapulted onto the mainstream’s radar with his groundbreaking 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo. The free mixtape, which was released on Soundcloud independently, features a powerhouse roster of collaborators including Migos, Big Sean, Young Thug, and Rich Homie Quan. All tracks were mixed and mastered by the legendary Mike Dean and Alex Tumay and producers include Metro Boomin, Lex Luger, FKi, Wondagurl, and Scott himself.
