“A Tale of Resilience: Ollie-Loo’s Unwavering Faith and Miraculous Rescue”
In December 2016, a sweet 2-year-old pit bull mix named Ollie-Loo faced a heart-wrenching abandonment. His former owner, without warning, left him alongside some unwanted belongings on a bitter winter day.
Unbeknownst to Ollie-Loo, he had been forsaken, and he waited faithfully in the exact spot where his owner had left him, enduring the harsh Detroit winter, where temperatures plummeted below freezing. Day after day, he hoped for his owner’s return.
Five days before Christmas, a ray of hope appeared. An urgent call to the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) led volunteers, including Terri Looby, to the abandoned dog’s location.
In an emotional interview with The Dodo, Looby vividly recalled the moment they discovered Ollie-Loo seeking warmth under discarded boxes. “As soon as the dog heard us, he picked his head up and looked at me. His tail was wagging, and he jumped off the chair and started limping toward me. He knew he was safe!” said Looby.
A neighbor of Ollie-Loo’s former owner revealed that the pit bull puppy had been left outside for over a week after the owner was evicted. The owner initially abandoned both Ollie-Loo and a smaller dog but returned for the smaller dog, leaving Ollie-Loo all alone.
During his rescue, it became evident that Ollie-Loo may not have eaten for days. His desperation for food was evident when he quickly devoured a chicken patty offered by the rescuers.
Despite enduring the freezing Detroit winter, Ollie-Loo miraculously suffered only a broken femur, which was promptly treated with surgery at the animal shelter.
Ollie-Loo’s story took a heartwarming turn when a loving new owner adopted him shortly after his rescue. Terri Looby expressed her gratitude, saying, “Ollie-Loo has been a very sweet, happy, tail-wagging puppy who just wants a family to love him and not toss him out like he is trash.”
