In a powerful display of compassion and social responsibility, the Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a $1 million donation aimed at aiding immigrant families affected by recent federal raids across Southern California. The team, known for its deep-rooted connection to the community, is partnering with local organizations to provide legal, financial, and emotional support to those hardest hit.

The Dodgers made the announcement Friday morning, stating that the funds will be distributed among several nonprofits, including the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), RAISE LA, and Immigrant Defenders Law Center.

“We are more than just a baseball team,” Dodgers President Stan Kasten said in a statement. “We are part of a community, and when members of that community are hurting, it is our responsibility to step up and support them.”

The federal immigration raids, conducted over the past several weeks, have left many families in turmoil—parents separated from children, breadwinners detained, and homes torn apart. Community advocates have described the aftermath as “devastating,” particularly for children left behind.

“These raids have created fear and confusion in our neighborhoods,” said Angelica Salas, Executive Director of CHIRLA. “The Dodgers’ generosity brings not only practical help but also a powerful message of solidarity.”

The Dodgers’ donation will help cover the costs of legal representation, emergency housing, mental health services, and basic necessities for affected families. It’s a move that has drawn widespread praise from both within and outside the sports world.

Several Dodgers players have also voiced their support for the initiative. Star outfielder Mookie Betts posted on social media: “Proud to be part of an organization that puts people first. Baseball is about community—and we’re stronger when we stand together.”

Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a longtime advocate for family and youth causes, called the donation “an important step toward healing and justice.”

This isn’t the first time the Dodgers have used their platform for social advocacy. The team has previously donated millions to youth programs, COVID-19 relief efforts, and racial justice initiatives. Their latest move reflects a consistent commitment to social responsibility that echoes far beyond the baseball diamond.

“We believe in using our voice and resources to uplift those in need,” Kasten added. “This is what being part of Los Angeles means.”
