Gene Hackman’s longtime friend, Tom Allin, has revealed that the late actor believed he would have died “long ago” without the love and care of his wife, Betsy Arakawa. Speaking to The New York Times, Allin described Arakawa as deeply protective of Hackman, ensuring his well-being and managing his daily life, including his diet and social interactions.

The couple, who lived a quiet life in New Mexico, were found deceased in their Santa Fe home on February 26. Arakawa, 65, passed away first due to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Hackman, 95, succumbed to heart disease, high blood pressure, and advanced Alzheimer’s days later.

Authorities discovered their bodies after a pest control worker raised concerns. The tragic discovery also included their deceased dog, while two other pets survived.

Hackman and Arakawa, married for over three decades, first met when she worked at a gym in Los Angeles. Their enduring love and her devotion to his well-being defined their life together, making their passing a heartbreaking loss.
